Environmental Assessment Guidelines Need Repair After Previous Administration Revisions

Submitted by Staff of Union of Concerned Scientists, September 25, 2023

The Biden administration has proposed an important update to the implementation of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA.) NEPA is often considered our nation’s bedrock environmental law and provides essential opportunities for input from frontline community members on projects that may pose environmental impacts or risks to them.

The White House Council on Environmental Quality (CEQ) is taking comments from the public on this proposal until Friday, September 29. Act now and urge CEQ to finalize the strongest possible implementing regulations for NEPA.

These proposed changes come at a pivotal moment as communities across the nation reel from the devastating impacts of climate change and ongoing environmental injustices continue to take a disproportionate toll on communities of color. Strong NEPA protections are vital to protect public health and the environment.

Please add your voice today in support of CEQ’s proposal to strengthen NEPA. The comment deadline of September 29 is fast approaching.

>>> Sincerely, Brady Watson, Climate & Energy Program, Union of Concerned Scientists

ACT NOW ~ We have just enough time to let our input become part of the permanent record in this hearing.
