According to the Hydrogen Pipe Dreams report, is burning hydrogen in your gas stove or furnace a good idea?

No! Which is why I’m proud to share Physicians for Social Responsibility’s newest report, “Hydrogen Pipe Dreams: Why Burning Hydrogen in Buildings is Bad for Climate and Health.”

It takes a critical look at the health, safety, and climate impacts of blending hydrogen with methane for use in gas-burning appliances in our homes.

Hydrogen blending extends our reliance on methane, so it’s a false climate solution. It also increases the risk of leakage, making it a dangerous option for furnaces and stoves.

Finally, the report provides policy and advocacy recommendations, including pursuing electrification as the best solution.

I invite you to read up on this emerging hot-button issue, and please share the report with your colleagues and friends.
