Pipelines Damage Streams & Forests

ANNOUNCEMENT –  Community Meeting on Mountain Valley Pipeline

Join us next Thursday evening, September 29th,  Ireland Community Building

The next step for the Mountain Valley Pipeline was the Draft Environmental Impact Statement, or DEIS. This document, released on September 16, explains the environmental impacts of building the pipeline. The impact statement’s 90-day public comment period is the key window during which we can point out the weaknesses of the draft and express just how great of a threat building the pipeline is to our communities and the environment.

We’ll review information about the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (the agency that approves inter-state pipelines), the DEIS, as well as discuss specific environmental and community threats including property rights and property values, hydrology and water issues, and historical and cultural resources.

Thursday’s meeting will be at the Ireland Community Building in Ireland, WV (from Route 19 turn onto Wildcat Roadat 6:30 pmSign up now.

This Mountain Valley Pipeline Public Meeting relates to Nicholas, Webster, Braxton, Lewis, Doddridge, Harrison, and Wetzel Counties.

Monitor Water Quality Along the Proposed Mountaineer Express Pipeline Route

Streams are at risk from the development of natural gas pipelines. That’s why we’re training volunteers, as part of the WV-VA Water Quality Monitoring Program, to effectively monitor water quality along proposed pipeline routes before, during and after potential pipeline construction.

The program will be hosting a training in partnership with Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition (OVEC) and WV Highlands Conservancy at Coonskin Park, in Charleston, WV on Sunday, October 16. Call 304-637-7201 to learn more about this opportunity.

What: Natural Gas Pipeline Volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Training
When: Sunday, October 16, 1:00pm – 6:00pm
Where: Coonskin Park Tennis Center – Charleston, WV

If you are interested in attending the training, please fill out the application here. Please apply by Monday, October 10. Directions to the training session and an agenda will be provided the week of the training.

The WV-VA Water Quality Monitoring Program is a program developed by Trout Unlimited that is being implemented by Trout Unlimited and WV Rivers to train volunteers to monitor coldwater streams for impacts from shale gas and pipeline related development and other sources of non-point source pollution. Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition and WV Highlands Conservancy have partnered with TU and WV Rivers to organize this training session.

Columbia Pipeline’s Mountaineer XPress Project Accepted by FERC

From Marcellus Drilling News, September 23, 2016

## Columbia Pipeline Mountaineer XPress Project Map in Main Article ##

Columbia Pipeline’s Mountaineer XPress Project (MXP) includes approximately 165 miles of new pipeline from Marshall County, WV to Wayne County, WV with approximately 2.7 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of transportation capacity from existing and future points of receipt along or near CPG’s system.

In addition to new pipeline, the $2 billion project also includes constructing three new compressor stations and upgrading three existing stations. Columbia announced yesterday that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) has accepted Columbia’s “pre-filing” application for the project. Columbia will file the formal/full application next April and if all goes well, they plan to begin construction in the fall of 2017…

More details about the MXP project:

Columbia Pipeline Group, Inc. and Columbia Pipeline Partners LP (together, “Columbia”) today announced that their subsidiary, Columbia Gas Transmission, LLC received notification that its Mountaineer XPress Project (“MXP”) was recently accepted into pre-filing by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (“FERC”). (Docket number PF15-31)

Columbia plans to formally file its application with the FERC for MXP and Gulf XPress (“GXP”) in April 2016.

The approximate $2 billion MXP project will include the construction of roughly 165 miles of natural gas pipeline from Marshall County to Wayne County, West Virginia. It will create approximately 2.7 billion cubic feet per day of firm transportation capacity from existing and new points of receipt along or near Columbia Transmission’s system, providing producers in the Marcellus and Utica shale areas new transportation options to move gas out of the capacity-constrained supply basin and into the interstate market.

Columbia has already begun outreach to landowners and communities in areas where MXP will be constructed. Prior to construction, the project will undergo a comprehensive and transparent environmental review overseen by the FERC. Throughout the review period, the MXP team will continue to work closely with landowners, local officials and communities to provide up-to-date information and ensure community involvement in the process.

Pending FERC authorization, Columbia expects to commence MXP construction in the fall of 2017 and place the project in service in the fourth quarter of 2018.

The project includes upgrades to three existing Columbia compressor stations in Kanawha, Wayne and Marshall Counties, West Virginia, as well as the construction of three new stations in Doddridge, Jackson and Calhoun (or Ritchie) Counties, West Virginia. Pipeline construction is expected in the following West Virginia counties: Cabell, Calhoun, Doddridge, Jackson, Marshall, Mason, Putnam, Ritchie, Roane, Tyler, Wetzel and Wirt.

For more information on MXP and GXP, please visit cpg.com or columbiapiplinepartners.com. The FERC pre-filing document can also be viewed in its entirety by visiting elibrary.ferc.gov and searching docket number PF15-31.*
