Early Wednesday morning a third party tanker truck hit a tree while on its way to a Chesapeake site on Bunner Ridge. The collision knocked open a valve, causing 9 barrels of synthetic based oil to spill one and a half miles down the road, and into a stream that leads into White Day Creek. The oil is used in the drilling process. Chesapeake officials warned local residents not to allow their animals to drink from the stream. WVDEP officials were on the scene to clean up, and by this afternoon it was reported that 95% of the spill had been cleaned up.

Residents Concerned about Progress of Oil Spill Cleanup

“They told us they’d clean the road, they only cleaned the bridge up here, and never did come by the house,” said resident Cindy Rush.
Roger Channel, a local volunteer Fire fighter also helped, but he said there’s still plenty of oil left in the roadway, he’s asking crews to continue to dig out the remaining oil on the ground. “They didn’t get too much of it. They just dug out this ditch line, they did some digging in the well line, but there’s still a lot of product in the road here,” Channel said.
