The 24 year old driver of a 2008 Ford F-350 Super Duty truck lost control, rolled the truck and was killed while going northbound on I-79 near the WV-PA state line shortly after 6 am yesterday, Wednesday, July 11th. Apparently, the driver fell asleep at the wheel. His passenger was not seriously injured, according to various press reports.

The Morgantown Dominion Post reports that the truck was the property of Energy Contractors LLC, based at Bridgeport and Jane Lew, WV. This company provides operational services to the oil and gas industry.

The southbound lanes of I-79 were closed for about 1 and one-half hours, during which time the Pennsylvania State Police detoured traffic thru Mt. Morris to US 19 South.

July 9th — The West Virginia State Police said a two car accident occurred on Interstate 79 in Monongalia County on Monday afternoon just after 2 pm about a mile before the interchange with Interstate 68. One person was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Traffic on the interstate was backed up for about two miles.

July 8th –The name of the woman who had to be flown to the hospital after a car accident on I-79 Sunday night has been released. Carlinda Powell from Andrews, South Carolina was seriously injured when her white car hydroplaned near the 117 mile marker on I-79 and flipped at about 5:00 pm on Sunday. Four other cars then crashed after the car flipped. Powell was flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with serious injuries but she is expected to be okay. Two other people were taken to the United Health Center at Clarksburg. The Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is investigating.

July 7th –A two vehicle accident on Interstate 79 sent four people, including a two-year-old, to the hospital Saturday. According to the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, around 3 pm, a pickup truck traveling southbound on I-79 veered right off the highway just after exit 155 in Morgantown. Police said the truck then rolled over, ejecting it’s female driver, after it struck a second truck that was traveling up the on ramp. The second vehicle was carrying three people, including the child. All four people were transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries.
