Note that a defender says “It’s the only thing capable of making that big a dent” which seems to be the usual muddle of people thinking we have to find one magical, silver bullet to stop climate change, when it’s been clear for twenty-five years that we need to do a bunch of things, each of which will be a part of the solution.

BUT, we also need to stop doing a lot of things, which is what a lot of proponents of this and other dubious grand solutions are trying to evade. And paying people to plant trees is more appealing than confronting the armed thugs protecting those cutting down the existing forests all over the world.
