This is Unplug/Replug, a concession to political reality at the expense of future generations. It assumes we must maintain economic growth and a grid that delivers every watt of desired power no matter what. It isn't compatible with survival in the long run. If we had done this 25 years ago, likely it would have saved our high-tech, luxury-oriented civilization--but now it's too late, we have squandered too much and allowed our numbers to grow too high.
I wrote a series called False Solutions to Climate Change, six parts, which ran first on Resilience and then on OVEC's blog. Perhaps you would want to run it here, or include the introduction and a link to the rest. I think we have an increasing problem of a contradiction between what is needed to rescue Earth's ecosystems and what the public wants to face--never mind what the powerful rich insist is their due. We need multiple simultaneous revolutions--the alternative is collapse, and that alternative is looking more and more likely since we can't take even the kind of inadequate steps suggests above to mitigate damage. The powers that be are determined to burn the last fossil fuel dregs that can be wrested from the ground profitably--much is only profitable now with mounting public subsidy--and then turn to experimentation with dubious, extremely risking geoengineering schemes to try to avert calamity.
