I reject this notion. The author cites a study done by EDF in conjunction with industry, I believe it's the one in which the gas company led the scientists around to check individual wells, and the results showed much less leakage than independent studies subsequently showed--but was nonetheless cited by industry and the government "regulators" to justify inaction.

Early on, the author says maybe the best response would be to ramp up renewables but fracking made gas and oil irresistibly cheap so we'll use fossil fuels "for the foreseeable future."

Well, according to scientists NOT working for industry, the end of the foreseeable future is a brick wall we're speeding toward. Maybe we need not bother with converting to renewables at all if we're going to engineer our own extinction within a generation or two--"the foreseeable future."

What this is saying is that capitalism is not compatible with human survival -- which I think is the case. I looked at the original to see if I could comment (no) and I see this is a right-wing xenophobic rag so I shouldn't be surprised.
