		<description>Roy Clarkson&#039;s 1964 book, Tumult on the Mountains:  Lumbering in West Virginia 1770-1920 (McClain Printing Co., Parsons, WV) has 2 photos of a white oak 13 feet in diameter at 16 feet from the base, and 10 feet in diameter 31 feet from the base, cut in 1913.  

Also many other photos of the extreme devastation visited upon WV&#039;s forests in the 1880-1930 historical deforestation in which WV went from being 95% forested to 85% denuded.  We are still dealing with the &quot;Legacy Sediment&quot; of eroded soil from that era still moving down thousands of streams, not to mention the loss of fertility.
