Critically important statement on Union Hill, environmental justice and racism

Hi folks,

Let me apologize for any cross posting, but this piece by Dawone Robinson on environmental injustice, racism and Union Hill is critically important. Read the piece in full but here is the brief from Virginia Mercury that Dawone gave at the Virginia Environment Symposium at VMI in Lexington, VA.

'Start with Union Hill:' Gov. Ralph Northam put in an appearance Wednesday at the Environment Virginia Symposium conference in Lexington.

What the governor didn't mention as he continues to talk about "equity" in the wake of his blackface scandal didn't escape the notice of Dawone Robinson, a regional director at the Natural Resources Defense Council.

"We are not satisfied with a governor who ignores the cries of residents in Buckingham and replaces board members who may be sympathetic to their cries," Robinson writes in an op-ed adapted from his own speech to the symposium Thursday.

"And we will never be satisfied with a governor who maintains his unwavering support of this unjust, racist project. ... Gov. Northam, if you want to help right a wrong, you can start with Union Hill."
