But can we not pretend that the Democrats are a shining beacon of honesty and progress? Obama did better than his predecessor or his successor, true–it would have been hard not to–but his initiatives mostly came in his last two years, so that Trump could undo them with a quick squiggle of his pen, things we had worked on for years and years in some cases. His top priority was making Wall St and the insurance companies happy.

Pelosi allowed a Green New Deal Committee, as she was basically forced to, but made sure it was weak and compromised. Adequate action on the environment would piss off some powerful interests and the Democrats are no more eager to do that than the Republicans, with a handful of exceptions.
