<description>I recently came across a science I had never heard of before – Phenology.  It has to do with the emergence date of plants, such things as when the first bloom occurs, when they die in the fall, emergence of insects and migration of birds.  Remember reading about how Thoreau recorded such information about Walden Pond in High School Literature class?  It is now a science, with publications in peer-reviewed journals and it’s own professional organization, The USA Phenology Network. Go here and see maps of change and find data:

One of the principle findings is that spring this year arrived 22 days early in Washington, DC.  I wonder if Sen. Lamar Smith, the famous climate change denier who brought a snowball to the Senate floor to support his rhetoric, even noticed.  As one goes north the climate is warming faster. In Greenland spring was 26 days early.

Perhaps the ultimate problem in global warming is methane clathrates.  We are out of space, and if you wish to study that very large subject simply enter those two words in a search engine, such as Google and go to it!  It is often called Clathrate Time Bomb, because it too is capable of eliminating the human race and perhaps all life on the planet.

For more on the above I recommend the following:  (1), (2), (3), (4), (5).
