INJECTION WELLS pump waste water and slurries (solids in liquids) into the deep strata, maybe a mile down. The pressure of the pumps is really, really high.

So, it is no surprise that the strata of the earth are affected by the wastes being put in there. This stuff can come up thru old well casings, thru the many cracks in the layers above the injection layer and maybe even be forced back up thru the entrance pipe.

I heard about some earthquakes over in Ohio, not really very far from West Virginia and Pennsylvania, south of Youngstown. Was this near to some drilling and fracking operations? Those guys were right that recommended a ban on drilling until this is all understood, until the technology is sorted out, until the pooling plans are put in place, until the State regulations are understood and inspectors and regulators are hired and trained.

NEEDED, VOLUNTEERS WHO WANT AN INJECTION WELL IN THEIR BACK YARD SO THE KIDS CAN PLAY IT TRAFFIC!

You did not mention the long list of other problems that have contaminated surface and ground water besides injection wells like garbage and industrial waste landfills, incinerators, waste pits and lagoons, leaking tanks, pipelines and many others like illegal disposal of toxic and hazardous materials like radioactive materials.

Can I just say what a relief to find someone who actually knows what theyre talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring an issue to light and make it important. More people need to read this and understand this side of the story.

Early scientific analysis predicted that the risks associated with hazardous waste injection wells would be negligible. Unfortunately, experience has indicated that disposing of hazardous waste deep underground has been linked to water contamination , destroyed ecosystems, toxic leaks and earthquakes . Now we are learning that there is a difference between scientific analysis and scientific evidence.
