I think percentages are a little higher now and the 60% over 20 year period is horrible. The state government that has so much political funding coming from industry, that honesty will be hard to get. There are so many environmental and health issues related to said subjects and the state is of no help to resolve many of these issues.

This is just another example of how the State government works with the drillers. It under-funds research so that only seven chosen with full knowledge of the companies can be considered "very powerful." I don't think anyone familiar with analytical chemistry would have a good word to say for it. Thanks for the update. Tom Bond, Lewis County.

The question I have is, if these drilling companies knew that their gas well sites were being monitored, wouldn't they then do their best to make sure all was in compliance at the well sites? Furthermore, would a drilling company offer up any wells that were problematic? I would think that the drilling companies would have to give their OK for any studies that would take place on the site itself.

Can 7 gas wells from 3 different drillers in 3 different counties constitute a large enough study which could be applied to all gas wells in WV? Over one thousand gas wells were looked at in PA to determine that 6.2% to 7.2 % leaked methane within the first year : http://www.chesapeake.org/stac/presentations/208_Ingraffea%20Part%201.pdf

Therefore, it's hard to understand how 7 gas wells is considered a "very powerful body of work". Who is going to independently peer review the studies to be presented to the WV legislature?

There is a big problem with the drilling/fracking reports. This problem is called trust.

What I mean is these companies hire third party consultants as company reps or what you call on-site consultants. A lot of time there is a bit of creative reporting because the consultant doesnt want anything to reflect against said production. I as a rig hand and a driller, witnessed this all the time on drilling sites.

The PA-DEP rejected entire production reports from Chesapeake Energy because it was so inaccurate last year. With this in mind, I would think twice before trusting how honest these reports are because the last things they will show is the real mistakes being made.

There is also a good chance that there are issues with honest reporting.
