What is more disturbing is that due to technology the horizontal drilling process is improving in the production aspect. This allows the operators to drill larger wells by increasing what is called pay zone. In doing this it creates more frac stages and therefor a bigger frac job. This means much more water than used before. This also means with increased production you have greater risk of methane contamination and more water tainted. I really hope that there is a shift in the industry to care as much about the enviorment as they do the bottom line. Thousands of jobs could be created in the enviormental side, not to mention how many jobs that depend on the industry. We must insist that there be middle ground. To think that the oil/gas industry will stop or change overnight won't work. We must start somewhere and now. We must look for solutions before it gets worse.
