The fact that you said the meeting seemed more like a family reunion is what concerns me. That says a lot in itself, I think the key for us here in the land of Marcellus and coal is to hold ourselves to higher enviormental standards and to make sure that overall accountability is there. I would encourage as much enviormental research as possible at the expense of operators and government.

When you turn the profits there is a level of responsibility to make sure that these much larger wells are not destroying the enviorment. We are talking about wells that have much more pay zone and therefor produces much more hydrocarbons. In return there are much larger concerns especially considering that operators drill between 3-12 holes per wellpad. When calculating the enviormental impact I would say it is much larger at the very least.

With this is mind, what I would want to hear is that we have very serious minded enviormentally concerned people in position to oversee this drilling activity. I would hope that these people would not be laxed or be blinded by outside influences. Our economy needs these jobs but there could be even more jobs created by being enviormentally efficient. There has to be a sense of balance and it can't always be about the bottom line.
