Two Dead in Truck Accident on US Route 50 near Pennsboro

The Ritchie County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a road collision with two females dead at the scene.

It happened just before 8 a.m. Saturday morning at the intersection of U.S. Route 50 and Simington Drive near Ellenboro, WV.

Sheriff deputies said Cheryl Horner of Pennsboro, and a female juvenile passenger were traveling in a 2005 Dodge Ram Truck westbound on Route 50, when a 2007 Mac water tanker truck, owned by Jay Bee Oil and Gas Incorporated of Union, NJ traveling south bound on Simington Drive struck Horner’s vehicle, officials said.

The truck driver has been identified as Caitlin Hines, of Parkersburg. The Jay Bee company has active drilling and fracking operations in Ritchie, Doddridge and Tyler counties.

Both Horner and the female passenger were pronounced dead on the scene, officials said. The truck driver Caitlin Hines was taken to Camden Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg.

A 2013 Kenworth tanker truck, also traveling westbound on Route 50, and carrying crude oil was also struck by the water tanker truck. It is owned by West Virginia Oil Gathering LLC of Frazeysburg, Ohio. The driver, Andy Cornell of Belpre, Ohio wasn’t listed as receiving any injuries.

The West Virginia State Police, Volunteer Fire Departments from Ellenboro, Pennsboro, and Harrisville, Department of Highways, Public Safety Commission, Pennsboro Police Department, Ritchie County Emergency Management, and Ritchie County Ambulance Authority all responded.

These accidents are still under investigation.

UPDATE: US 22 West Now Open Following Fracking Fluid Spill in Brooke County

Authorities have reopened both lanes of US 22 heading westbound.

ORIGINAL STORY

A truck carrying fracking fluid has overturned on US 22 westbound causing the fluid to spill onto the road way in Brooke County.

Authorities have shut down one lane of US 22 heading westbound. Crews are at the scene working to clean up the spill between Harmon Creek and Three Springs Drive. The Brooke County EMA Director says the 300 gallon tote spill was HGV-1, a water gelling agent.

Authorities say the Harmon Creek Exit is closed.
