The Citizens Guide to Marcellus Shale Drilling – and the Need for Action

Source:   www.PennFUTURE.org

The natural gas deep in the Marcellus Shale and other formations provides both tremendous opportunities and tremendous risks. We must manage both to have a sustainable future.

Pennsylvania’s history is marked by ill-conceived use and misuse of our natural resources, with the people of the state left with environmental devastation and massive cleanup. We saw our forests stripped bare, our streams and rivers turned orange from abandoned mines, and invasive species allowed to destroy native plants and animals.

We cannot allow our past to dictate our future. And we must not allow the deep natural gas drillers that are working in the Marcellus and Utica Shale formations to destroy Penn’s Woods.

PennFUTURE is leading the charge to protect our water, our air, our land, and our public health from drilling. Join us to help monitor deep natural gas drilling, and to advocate for world-class protections, reinvestment in our natural resources, and oversight of drilling by our state and local governments and agencies.

Hello ! That article is cool. But what the hell, it is not all true. I really do not mean any harm, but I’ve simply found other points of view. So I can`t just admit to the author’s point of view. And don’t start blaming me for the lack of proofs ! All the clues can be found by searching the Internet. However, thanks for the story anyway.

There is no question that we are going down a dangerous path by not regulating the shale drilling in our areas. The tremendous amount of water that these larger and larger payzones require is crazy. We only see half back and it is tainted so bad with radiation, chemicals such as corrosion inhibitors, wetting agents, viscosity agents, friction reducers, muriatic acids, and so on. We are talking millions of gallons everyday during a time that our water, air, and weather are all threatened. The companies promise riches but we will see how that works out. Ask the citizens in Bradford PA how they feel. Seems like we all have a lot of work to do and even more to get worked out.
