Senate Bill 424 Crosses Over to House

by Dee Fulton on March 3, 2011

The West Virginia Legislature website has been updated to reflect that SB424, The Natural Gas Horizontal Well Control Act, has survived the crossover date and passed to the House. This is the only bill of four major bills designed to bring protections related to hydrofracking to continue through the Legislature. The bill states:

“Existing laws and regulations developed for conventional oil and gas operations are inadequate to address the potential environmental impacts from these new technologies and practices; and allowing the responsible development of our state’s natural gas resources will enhance the economy of our state and the quality of life for our citizens while assuring the long term protection of the environment.”   37 page bill here.
